Lefsetz’s Predictions for 2007 in Music [and one we could all use]
Posted in Advice on 01.04.07 21:20

I wanted to end my day on a more positive note/mood than the last post left me in.

Earlier this week industry guru Bob Lefsetz posted his predictions for 2007.

When I first came across his site it took sometime to adjust. It was like “WHOA - who turned up the net?”. The guy is passionate. He’s opinionated. He LOVES music. Not the business end of it, although you can gleam plenty from his site into such matters. The music. And even though he is BOB LEFSETZ if I ever ended up on a plane [or anywhere else] next to him, there’d be no issues on my end about being uncomfortable or there being any awkwardness - we’d talk about music. And I’d probably learn more than I’d admit I need to. I now consider his posts required reading for that same reason.

He doesn’t hold back:
Zune: Already dead
David Geffen: Done
Rolling Stone: Irrelevant

But he has some good ideas too [find those for yourself], especially applicable for newer bands coming up [his site is filled with stuff worth reading in that vein - I'll link to some later].

It’s his last point [of 31] that caught me the first time and sticks out like a sore thumb today:

Respect - The key to the future.

There’s more to it in his post, but it’s specifically music related [and I agree 100%].

But I think that one line sums up a lot for these days.
