I used to work at United Bookstore, about eight years ago, and when I did, I always wished I worked across the street. I was too insecure to ever apply for a job at Sam the Record Man. I thought it/they were way too cool for me. So I have kinda been living a dream.
- Now former staff from Sam’s
For plenty of music fans in general Sam’s was a dream place to purchase music with a knowledge and friendly staff, big supporters of the local scene [I know Their Majesties sold a good number of CDs there alone] and a selection unrivaled elsewhere in town.
Thanks for the great deals and suggestions over the years, and best of luck to everyone who suddenly found themselves without a job.

< ![CDATA[When considering the options for buying new music in Halifax (I will leave CD Plus, Random Play and Select Sounds in Bedford out of this discussion - those store already know how much i value and support them)i think it is very sad and unfortunate that Sam's has closed. Ask any music fan in this town (especially jazz and classical fans) where they like to buy new-CD music and Sam's will be a the top of the list. Why? Because not only did they have lots of stock (admittedly not as voluptuous as its TO version) but the store was staffed with knowledgable music (capital-F) Fans. I used to love going in and asking andy and co. what album/band was turning them on lately...and 30 minutes later leaving with not only something i had never heard of before but a list of a few things i should look out for. I recall my first foray into the daunting world of jazz was with a trip to Sam's. And Sean Duggan (who now works at CD Plus) outfitted me with some great recommendations and ideas on what to listen to next. Similarly, i have also taken advantage of recommendations by the classical staff with equal success. These are experiences that have been virtually impossible to obtain at the likes of HMV and Future Shop - shops whose staff could essentially be swapped with the staff at Starbucks and no one would know the difference. R.I.P. Sam's, you will be missed.]]>
