What Happened
Last Wednesday afternoon a fire broke out at the North End Diner. Eventually spreading throughout the diner, the North End Pub and apartments upstairs the entire complex was destroyed.
Apparently the cause of the fire was bad wiring.
The Aftermath
Outside the loss of another music venue in the city, as well as the loss of the associated jobs [one lady has worked at the NED for over 20 years!] there was an apartment known in the local metal scene as the Lodge which was home to members of Terratomb.
The guys lost thousands of dollars in gear [well over ten years worth of collecting gear as well as some new still not fully paid for stuff]. If that wasn’t bad enough, well they lost EVERYTHING.
Thankfully no one was injured, or worse, due to the fire.
Fundraiser #1
March 22nd 11pm $5
$2 drinks all night long… even bottlesall proceeds from the door and $1 from every drink sold will be going to the guys. Not entirely sure on the whole bill. Alchemy had the night booked already.
As far as I know this won’t be the only benefit show but come anyway.

For our part for now, our jam space has a free jam policy, where every 6th jam is free, well from now until the end of April all “free jams” are $2 and that money will be going to the Terratomb guys to help out. More details on the Rock Garden site.
EDIT: On Saturday the Joyless Streets held a show at the Rock Garden, I told them there was no cost to the show really, and anything they gave me would just get thrown in with the proceeds to Terratomb. Brian from the band just stopped by to square up as it were and let me just say things like this make me fucking LOVE HALIFAX and [most*] OF ITS PEOPLE. They went WELL beyond what was required. *And maybe not the place to mention it, but to the bands who have been bitching about the lack of “free” jams now - suck it the fuck up - it’ll cost you .75 cents if you’re in a 3 piece, a buck for the few duos that jam here - or less for others - you’ll survive. /END EDIT
Random Aside
In other fire related news here in Halifax, local pita [and more] maker the Lebanese Bakery was burnt out two nights later.
