| Horses CD Release Show(S) Tonight | Goodbye Lachie | |

In proper indie tradition, Horses will be releasing their debut release this evening and then breaking up. Perhaps. Maybe Lachie will continue Horses in the big suck to which he is moving, but Glenn Barrington is once again without a band. Apparently this happens to Glenn quite frequently, band gets momentum, things happen, band calls it quits. Also in the band: Mark Gillis is Horses’ bass player.
Says Lachie:
This may be your last chance to say all those things you always wanted to say to me, but haven’t because of social conventions and general politeness. Your last chance to tell me where to go, you never know when I’ll be back around. Don’t waste the opportunity.
In response to an online request for a mandolin teacher:
I think they offer lessons through the folklore centre, but I am not sure of the price.
I have generally found it is best to just get mildly intoxicated and jump off drum risers. That is how I perfected my mandolin style.

Lachie is a bear of a man. He likes to drink. He likes to make music.
That much anyone can deduce upon meeting him in the usual music based social settings.
He’s one guy though, where while that may be the first impression of him, there’s definitely a lot more going on with him.
I wish I knew Lachie like his closest friends do perhaps. But perhaps not the special way him and Glenn know each other. Alas - too late for that. But I see a bear sized hole left in the wake of his leaving for some folks - easily.
Check out his not very often updated blog, it’s a sad and beautiful world [the title alone could betray one’s initial take on him]. Just read the most recent post though, a review of 2006. Guy is in love. Seriously.
I’ve met his girlfriend before, and never knew they were dating until after she moved to Toronto and was kind of well, flabbergasted they were dating. She seemed so not like Lachie. I wager though it’s that whole “more going on” thing though where she compliments him quite nicely.
She also has a great sense of humor [from Horses myspace page]:
why do the two brothers in horses have different last names? i don’t get it.
My girlfriend has often referred to Glenn, in a completely endearing manner [and behind his back], as Little Lachie. Glenn and Lachie obviously have a very special relationship. Thankfully not as special as the one Lachie and Jamie have.
All the best to the both of you in Toronto.

P.S. Here’s a Dal Gazette article regarding Great Plains’ album release, one of the other two bands Lachie leaves behind. The other being Die Bruke. Oh and Tom Fun too. And I don’t know if he still plays in Yellow or not. And there’s probably others as well.
