new music mondays tuesday: random mix - new, kind of new, local and so on

So here’s some music I’ve been listening to as of late [with mp3s and videos for blonde redhead, dfa 1979, lofty, and tapes ‘n’ tapes]

New: Blonde Redhead
This is a band that I have been aware of for at least a few years now, but to the best of my knowledge had never heard before. I believe it was chromewaves that had a link to the first single and title track of their new album though so I clicked away and was soon sweep away in this band’s music. I’m still digesting the rest of their catalogue but here is the video for the track that finally introduced me to Blonde Redhead.

Kind of new: Tapes ‘n’ Tapes - The Loon
I don’t know where I was last year when this was released but I’ll use them to address one common criticism of music blogs - that being the frantic pace at which they anoint a band as the next hot thing while dropping the last hot thing just as fast. Probably true - BUT - thing is with blogs, they don’t disappear, unlikely magazines or other print they won’t be thrown up [or recycled], and unlike TV they are available anytime, anywhere with an internet connection. So while they may not be the flavor of the day [hour?], it is still possible to discover them at your own pace. And happy am I for discovering them last month. I haven’t stopped listening since.

Insistor: mp3
Manitoba: mp3

Iain posted about The Take Away Shows a week or two ago and robbed me of at least one full afternoon in doing so. Below is one of the two performances from Tapes ‘n’ Tapes [the other being Insistor linked above as an mp3 - and definitely worth viewing as well - as are the wealth of other performances]

#28.1 - Tapes’n Tapes - Cowbell

Local: Lofty
Haligonian Luke Hilchie = Lofty
A currently on the back burner project of his, he doesn’t even have a myspace page [how refreshing in a nice sort of way] I can direct you to. So here is one of my favorite songs by him.
He did suggestion I direct people to Omnicloud’s myspace page so go there.

Do Not Worry Infected Millions, He Has the Cure: mp3

No longer together: Death From Above 1979
I am not sure why I was not a fan when they were around [and playing in Halifax - ugh - perhaps FUCK would be better now] - but I will continue kicking my ass for that for many many months to come I am sure.

Little Girl: mp3
Pull Out: mp3

And here’s a clip from a performance on Conan - which if I ever start a band and perform on Conan now features the requirement for the appearance to be deemed a success.
