Julie Doiron & Joel Plaskett Emergency Shortlisted for Polaris Prize

This year finds two east coast acts represented on the shortlist for the Polaris Prize…um Julie Doiron out of New Brunswick for Woke Myself Up [I enjoy that album immensely, so so good] and Halifax’s [Dartmouth's? covering the band both!] very own Joel Plaskett Emergency for Ashtray Rock [I still have yet to dig into this one].

I have no access to music on this computer I’m using but thankfully Julie Doiron’s myspace has one of my favorite songs from the album on it No More. Go listen. [Again the whole album so good, introspective acoustic numbers to crazyhorse like feedback solos - can't go wrong. SOLID from start to finish].

That is a huge improvement over the inaugural edition of the award last year when there were zero representatives of the east coast!

I’m thrilled to say there’s only one nominee I have no idea about this year [I think there were two last year], Miracle Fortress - but the down side is there’s one less new band to explore. Will Julie or Joel win, we’ll have to wait until September 24th to find out!

The other 8 nominees are:
* Arcade Fire, Neon Bible
* The Besnard Lakes, The Besnard Lakes are the Dark Horse
* The Dears, Gang of Losers
* Feist, The Reminder
* Junior Boys, So This Is Goodbye
* Miracle Fortress, Five Roses
* Chad VanGaalen, Skelliconnection
* Patrick Watson, Close to Paradise
