Education & Events CoordinatorJob Title: Education & Events Coordinator
Location: Music Nova Scotia, Halifax, NS
Manager/Supervisor: Executive Director
Hours: 37.5 per week; occasional weekend/evening work in response to seasonal requirements
Salary: $30,000
Holidays: 2 weeks (4%) and statutory holidays
Objectives: Further Music Nova Scotia’s initiative to foster music education in all communities throughout the province, and support MNS activities through managing event logistics.Overview
The Education & Events Coordinator is primarily responsible for assisting musicians and music business professionals with career development. This person must understand the music industry, especially in Nova Scotia, and should demonstrate applicable skills for creating educational opportunities and coordinating events. The individual’s experience with or knowledge of non-profit organizations and music industry will be considered. Self-motivation and independence balanced with a team orientation and a commitment to the values and policies of Music Nova Scotia must be demonstrated.Main duties
The Education & Events Coordinator will
• Design and implement educational workshops, modules, and seminars for the members of Music Nova Scotia.
• Provide logistical support for various Music Nova Scotia events, including Nova Scotia Music Week, conference showcase suites, etc.
• Provide career strategy meetings for emerging level members.
• Manage the workstations, CD library and resources in the ARC (Ardenne Resource Centre), including updates of educational materials, computer software, and any other career development tools.
• Contribute articles to the Association’s quarterly newsletter ‘The Notebook’.
• Design and execute educational presentations for Nova Scotia schools, colleges and universities.
• Administer the creation of special CD compilations.
• Facilitate the adjudication of the National Songwriting Competition.
• Any other duties within the scope of the organization to be agreed in consultation with the Executive Director.Qualifications (minimum requirements)
• Minimum 2 years experience in the music industry and/or event-type environments.
• A high level of computer literacy, and proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent use of the English language and good overall communication skills.
• Must be organized with good time management skills.
• Ability to solve problems, be self-motivated and take initiative.
• Flexible attitude and ability to remain unfazed in a hectic office environment.
• Able to take direction and to work in a team environment.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task.Other desirable assets (not required, but any of these would be a bonus)
• Familiarity with musicians and music business professionals across Nova Scotia and awareness of different genres and cultures.

Objectives: To manage membership development and relations, and to communicate Music Nova Scotia’s initiatives.Overview:
The Communications & Membership Coordinator is the primary point of contact f0r members of Music Nova Scotia, and will be responsible for all external association communications including daily newsletters. This person is also responsible for maintaining records of all members and clients of the association, and will provide general clerical support. The ideal candidate is personable and outgoing and will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. This is a fast –paced environment and requires an individual with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task. The individual’s experience with or knowledge of non-profit organizations and music industry will be considered. Self-motivation and independence balanced with a team orientation and a commitment to the values and policies of Music Nova Scotia must be demonstrated.Main duties:
The Communications & Membership Coordinator will
• Act as the first contact for all visitors and callers to Music Nova Scotia.
• Be responsible for general office duties, such as filing, photocopying, mail distribution, etc.
• Enter data for all information systems, including our membership database, musicnovascotia.ca, Export Development Program for Music contact database, CD library, and resource list.
• Write and distribute communications to members, including membership packages, daily e-newsletter, web site news updates, myspace updates, and membership renewal notifications.
• Develop promotional initiatives with the Executive Director and/or a Board representative to increase the organization’s profile and membershipand marketing materials
• Compile content and oversee the production and editing of “The Notebook”.
• Prepare membership reports for Executive Director and Executive Committee of the Board,
• Represent Music Nova Scotia at all external events as determined by the Executive Director.
• Any other duties within the scope of the organization as determined by the Executive Director.Qualifications (minimum requirements):
• Minimum 1-year experience in administration and/or communications.
• Preference will be given to those with a degree/diploma in Administration and/or Communications.
• A high level of computer literacy, and proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Office Word, Filemaker Pro, Excel and Access.
• Excellent use of the English language and good overall communication skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Must be organized with good time management skills.
• Ability to solve problems, be self-motivated and take initiative.
• Flexible attitude and ability to remain unfazed in a hectic office environment.
• Able to take direction and to work in a team environment.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task.Other desirable assets (not required, but any of these would be a bonus)

The Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper is primarily responsible for assisting Music Nova Scotia’s Executive Director, particularly with daily financial records and reports and performing tasks that will increase the efficiency of the office. The Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper must demonstrate a high level of organizational skills, be experienced with Simply Accounting, have extensive computer skills and be able to meet strict deadlines. The individual’s experience with or knowledge of non-profit organizations and music industry will be considered. Self-motivation and independence balanced with a team orientation and a commitment to the values and policies of Music Nova Scotia must be demonstrated.Main duties
The Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper main responsibilities include:• Enter, verify and reconcile transactions: accounts payable and receivable; payroll; purchase orders; cheques; invoices; cheque requisitions; and bank statements in Simply Accounting.
• Prepare financial statements, summaries and other financial analyses on a regular monthly basis and as required.
• Reconcile and prepare reports as necessary for grant and funding purposes, and prepare statistical data collection.
• Manage event revenues, cash flow, petty cash, expense reports, payroll recap, and prepare HST remittances
• Manage payroll including maintaining existing employee payroll; adding new hires; terminations; ROE’s; T4’s; and verifying payroll service accuracy.
• Support Executive Director with HR administration (monitoring of overtime, issuance of benefit plan, adherence to policies, schedule performance evaluations, etc.)
• Provide Administrative support for the Executive Director, Education and Event Coordinator, and Program Officer.
• Assist Executive Director with board communications, and support, including taking and preparing board minutes.
• Any other duties within the scope of the organization to be agreed in consultation with the Executive Director.Qualifications (minimum requirements)
• Minimum 2 years experience in administration and bookkeeping
• A high level of computer literacy, and proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Simply Accounting
• Excellent use of the English language and good overall communication skills.
