The ECHO Songwriting Prize is taking votes (deadline September 28, 2007) for “the most innovative, creative and artistic songs created in the past year by emerging songwriters in Canada.” The songwriter will receive a $5,000 and, according to an article in the fall issue of Socan’s Words & Music, there had been two local songs in the running (In-Flight Safety’s “Lost (The March Song)” & Great Plains “Unnatural”). The jurors whittled it down to the following 5:

  • Nathan’s “Scarecrow”
  • Chad VanGaalen’s “Graveyard”
  • Feuermusik’s “Doppelspiel”
  • Abdominal’s “Pedal Pusher”
  • The Besnard Lakes’ “Devastation”
