Claude Samson is one of those guys who is either clearly insane or a misunderstood genius [maybe both?]. Out of the literally hundreds of guitar players that have passed through my jam spaces Claude remains one of the most outstanding players. From finger picking blue-grass, to jazz, to country to straight up rock I have yet to see anyone play a variety of styles here with such ease and grace.
Apparently he once lied about being able to read music to get a cruise ship job but was able to pull it off anyways through hard work, a bit of help from fellow band members and his playing abilities. While the following video isn’t a guitar wank-fest it does illustrate him doing something else I couldn’t do.
I’m impressed he a) came up with the idea, b) get off his stoned ass [wild guess based on a few scenes in the video] and actually put it together, and c) is able to pull it off.
And for the record, Claude hates the voice over.
It looks weird but fun has hell! This be a video of my little invention, It is an interpretation of the “one person band” ( To be politically correct), concept which I electrified. My friend Pete Davison had his camera over one day and took these snapshots of me playing around. I made up the parts on the spot, which are a bit loose, but you’ll get the idea. I just purchased the 8 string last November. In time I plan on exploring this new found way of playing. Hope you find it interesting. CLAUDE SAMSON HALIFAX, CANADA
