I saw Jenn briefly at the ECMA Music Awards Sunday night. She had just flown in that morning from Alberta for a taping as part of the broadcast before flying back out west again, where we will pick up her adventures from Katie Raso of 4TheRcrd

The most unforgettable performance, however, came from opening act, Jenn Grant. Due to inclement weather in the East, Grant was unable to perform before Desser last night. In the final throes of Hayden’s encore, a vibrantly flustered Grant arrived in the theatre to join Desser in a duet. Following their joint performance, Desser finished his encore before inviting Grant to take the stage. This is when Jenn Grant blew me away. After being stuck in an airport in Atlantic Canada all day, Grant quickly shook off the jetlag. Her energetic performance enchanted the crowd. With a musical sound reminiscent of Jenny Whiteley and the Be Good Tanyas, Grant’s style melded brilliantly with the performance given by Desser. This in and of itself is a noteworthy feat….I was also taken by the determination demonstrated to give such a performance, travel be damned. Grant’s set was not only a lesson in perseverance, but also a show of her commitment to her music.
