If you are not heading off to Evolve you should consider checking out Dreamsploitation (new CD available as well) as he performs with Glory Glory Man United for their EP release of Friends of the Seen (recorded with Jon Epworth).

Not only have folks taken a liking to both albums but those that have ventured out to see either act have been pleasantly surprised at the talent in GGMU and displayed by Chuck Blazevic|Dreamsploitation.

Here is a chance to both at once! Wow!

Uncooperative Death needs your cooperation Wednesday Night
Posted in Advice, Artists/Bands, CDs, Entrepreneurship, Fun, Halifax, Releases on 07.15.08 22:38

Uncooperative Death are a Halifax based metal band that I met via their jamming at my jam spaces. Last week though out walking around I saw the poster below on some telephone polls and made a mental note to fire that up here.

You can check out the band on their Facebook page or their home page at http://www.uncooperativedeath.com/

Besides being very nice guys, I am giving them props for the entrepreneurial spirit in flat out fundraising for the recording of their new album. You are welcome to hate on them, shit all over them for this but it works. It is a fun means of raising some money and in a scene where you are lucky to make anything assuming you even get paid for a show. They are being proactive and kudos to them.

The Facebook EVENT page

The event is at a bar. The bar will serve you booze. here are some of the prices for that:
Coors Light & Molson Cdn draught (12oz) - $2.50 or jugs for $12.50
Keiths (12oz) draught - $3.00 or jugs for $15
Rickards Red or White (16oz) draught - $4.25 or jugs for $16.25
Domestic bottles - $3.50

Says Chr!s Sm!th:

I’m part of an upcoming group show at Argyle Fine Art Gallery called Vinyl View. The deal is that a bunch of artists were given records and free reign to do whatever the hell we wanted. Woohoo! No rules… this is so much better than when I was in the army! What the hell was I thinking back then? Anyway…

Maybe the army planted bit of a love of guns in me though. I made a pistol packin’ record as you can see. Oh yeah, the barrel of the gun is the record hole:

Thanks to the crafty gang at Maritime Digital Colour for getting my photo onto a record.

If you’re Facebook-capable you can see more artist’s vinyl creations here:

Swing on by for the show opening this Thurs from 7-9pm.

VINYLVIEW: Putting a New Spin on the Art of the Vinyl Record

Show opens this THURSDAY, JULY 10th. Doors open at 7pm. Show continues until August 4th.

And so like all good ideas at Argyle Fine Art, they usually begin with some great conversation over a glass of wine, talking about music and art and everything in between. Many conversations in fact about vinyl, nostalgic stories and fond memories of listening to that perfect sound that only a record can produce. Then we thought what a perfect medium for visual art too..on records that have seen better days. This is how our upcoming show VINYLVIEW opening this THURSDAY, JULY 10th, 7-9pm, was born– an exciting exhibition combining both the musical and visual arts.

Artists were asked to create works using vinyl records, and if desired, record sleeves. We put an open call for submissions out there in the great wide world, and the results we think you will agree are AMAZING! Every medium has been explored by artists from all backgrounds from local artists to artists living as far away as Las Vegas. Expect the unexpected! The gallery will close at 5pm to prepare for the opening, with the show beginning at 7pm.

While here on Thursday evening you will be treated to lots of surprises including a Live Performance by emerging musician Chuck Blazevic of Dreamsploitation. If you like the music, show your love and buy his CD here too!

While viewing VINYLVIEW, you may find a favorite work and we ask that you let us know by voting for the People’s Choice Gold Record Award (just for fun!) throughout the evening or afterwards by sending us an email. The winner will be announced on our website on Monday, July 14th and on our facebook group page:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2367640788&ref=ts

Thank you goes out to TAZ Records for providing the vinyl for our artists.

SEE YOU AT THE SHOW THURSDAY! ALL THE WORK WILL BE ON OUR WEBSITE after the show has opened at www.argylefa.tk

Rock Garden Benefit Show:Rock for those who help you rock.

Rock Garden benefit with Get Wrecked, Bloodbath, Rockstorm, Journalist, Wolf, No Flyers Please

Stephanie Johns was kind enough to give the show some coverage in the current issue of the Coast in her Scene & Heard column/blog. Titled “Get Wrecked while Rock Gardening” - the title is apt as happy hour will run the length of the show this evening from 10-1. Bands will be starting around 10:30. Joi and I should be getting there just as bands start. Please find us and say hi if you make it out.
And again thanks to Don, all the bands and Craig at Reflections for this.

If you like making a lot of noise while simultaneously retaining a happy landlord and neighbours, you ought to head to Reflections Wednesday July 9 for a benefit for everyone’s favourite jamspot, the Rock Garden (with Get Wrecked, Bloodbath, ROCKSTORM, Journalists, Wolf and No Flyers Please). I asked co-owner Rob MacArthur how much he cried upon first hearing that his beloved music scene was going to give him a helping hand. “First it was all happiness that someone would even want to do this for us. Then it was concern like, ‘wait, we’re a business, what will people say about this?’ Now we’re back to complete happiness and don’t carry what anyone else says as it amazes us that anyone one person would want to do this, let alone a number of bands. We’re very happy and grateful. It’ll be a good night out.” Anyone who frequents the Rock Garden is familiar with the aromatic bathrooms, and MacArthur would like his clients to know that they have not escaped his attentions. “We’re fixing the bathrooms! The space needs a little more attention, some affection.” Hopes are that this show will help him with some cash to do all the little errands that are required. “I think this is one of those cases heartwarming was intended for. No matter what, it makes you feel good that people out there would be willing to offer their help. And we have been fortunate to have plenty of people do so in different ways over the past three years. And special thanks to Don Hynes [of Get Wrecked] for taking the initiative on this one.” Some may remember that the Rock Garden used to host the odd all ages show in their larger room, and those shows have since been put on hiatus due to damages sustained during some particularly rousing choruses. Are shows something that MacArthur and Rock Garden co-owner Johanna Gerrits might in the future? “Not likely to have any shows here in the immediate future but I am working with someone now and we are exploring options for shows elsewhere,” says MacArthur. “How that ends up looking depends on the venue found and if/when one is found that will work for us. I would love to have a space to offer for shows but right now I think making the Rock Garden a better place to rehearse is the main priority.” Bruce Parks from ROCKSTORM explains why it was important to him to participate in this show, “Rob and Johanna are great and put up with our noise pollution on a regular basis, so we couldn’t say no. Very few people would be able to put up with that barrage of clashing noise and still keep a smile on their face. Well, maybe Rob doesn’t smile that much, but he’s always hospitable.”

BATTLES!!!!!! [Their MySpace, Homepage]

Locals representing [seems like quite a few this year too] include:
Slowcoaster + drummer Brian Talbot’s DJ set

The following was posted by Eric from the band shortly after the accident:

everyone said that the car we were in (brand new chrysler 300 rental) was what saved all of our lives. thanks for all of the support everyone. we are currently in moncton at the hospital. my girlfriend niki was in the car with us and she is having plastic surgery tomorrow or the next day to fix a badly broken nose, orbital bone and sinus cavitiy. rob has a lacerated spleen, but is recovering quickly and can walk around and just has to take it easy for a couple months. sylvain (who is in the youtube video getting pulled from the car) is having his second surgey on his leg tomorrow to fix his femur after his surgery at around 5am after the crash which was to fix his lower leg. nick and i walked away with minor cuts and bruises (which is amazing because nick was in the passenger seat) in time we will all recover and have all lived to thrash another day. thanks again for your kind words and support.

Send Black Moor your good energy..they need it right now! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=50739660262&ref=mf
