Our suggestions:
Start the day with breakfast at Coastal Coffee - it hurts to not say the Ardmore, but Coastal is pretty damn sweet + I really enjoy the few pieces of fruit added to each plate to finish breakfast off with. I also like how the owner/chef brings you your food. Nice touches.

We’ll mimic Joel’s recommendation for used bookstore Last Word around the corner from the Rock Garden on Windsor St. - also our personal fave.

Weather permitting walk downtown, take a ferry ride to Dartmouth, upon your return walk the board walk, continuing at the board walk’s end to Point Pleasant Park and have a picnic or just relax.

For your picnic, either before or after taking the ferry [if it is Saturday] head to the Farmer’s Market downtown as well.

We’ll suggest you end the day by taking a date to a nice dinner at jane’s on the common
Then maybe catch a show at one of the venues noted by Julie, or some live comedy [see a picnicface PSA below], a movie at the Oxford. Plenty to do here. Lots of other places to eat at too. And as you can tell from the suggestions Joi and I like food.

For lots of other suggestions to pass this weekend check out the Coast’s current best of issue [we even get mentioned]

Zoobombs and the Halifax Pop Explosion
Posted in HPX, Halifax, Shows on 10.19.07 10:18

I saw this band last night.

Honestly..best live band I’ve ever seen - they are simply phenomenal.

I have never seen anything like this in my life.

Please go see them.
- some guy named Don on a local message board

Can you really argue with Don.
Also the Zoobombs are from Japan. Japan is no where near Halifax, thus your chances of catching them [here at least] again are probably pretty slim.

Fortunately you have 3 - 1,2,3! - chances to catch them between now and tomorrow. [I’m even going to have this posted before their first show starts for a change]

First Chance
Zoobombs are playing an intimate RSVP-only show for Pop In Sessions with Windom Earle tonight!

There might be a few tickets left! Email popinsessionsrsvp@yahoo.com and let ‘em know you wanna go tonight. Tickets ate $6, and it will be taped live in-studio. These are awesome shows, and this one’s gonna be amazing!

Shows are taped at Common Ground Studios @ 2315 Hunter Street. If you don’t get a response, you can try your luck at the door between 6:30 and 7pm tonight. Doors close at 7!

Second Chance
Tonight at the Seahorse - Windom Earle [11:45] is also on that bill as is the also from Japan Moist Towelettes [11:00]. Zoobombs close the show hitting the stage at 12:45.

Third and Final Chance
Now there’s a good chance tonight you may want to at the Marquee or the Attic for one of the other shows so remember Saturday - Seahorse - 4:30pm = Zoobombs - All ages show.
Also on that bill are Halifax’s A History of… + The Most Serene Republic + Save September

Halifax Pop Explosion: Thursday Night Preview
Posted in Fun, HPX, Halifax, Shows on 10.18.07 16:10

So the Arts & Crafts showcase is tonight at the Marquee - I won’t be there.
I have plans to be there the next two nights and I’m just not a huge a&c fan.
Plus I imagine plenty of others will be there so if you’re not you can read/hear all about it elsewhere.

There is a great little line up in hell’s Kitchen though as well featuring Kill the Lights, These Electric Lives, and the Small Sins [a Coast pick for the night as well]

The options for tonight all round are pretty great.

I would LOVE to finally catch local popsters the First Aid Kit at Gus’ at 10:30 but that will make it tough getting downtown in time to catch any of the 11pm acts I would like to see.

At Ginger’s we have Shotgun Jimmie performing at 11:15 and at the Attic as part of the Drake showcase happening there tonight we have Their Majesties [11pm].

So I’m not sure where my night will begin this evening but I do know I will be at the Seahorse for midnight to catch the wonderful country stylings of Lil’ Andy [followed by the also old school country fans] The Divorcees.

After Lil’ Andy…. to the Attic? Stick around for the Divorcees?

Keep reading for the complete line-ups at each venue tonight…. (more…)
