While chromewaves provides positive reviews of both their album - “a record chock full of top-down, joyriding, sing-along power-pop goodness” and their live show [Toronto’s album release show to be exact] where “anyone who wasn’t paying attention at first was before long, their perfect pop is just that irresistible”.
Jenn Grant continues getting great reviews including these two from HARP and SceneandHeard.ca, who also have a THT review for Little Jabs, while NOW suggests Canada’s crit-picked award (the Polaris) needs a rethink - and suggests Orchestra For The Moon should’ve been a contender for the $20,000 prize in their first annual Anti-Polaris shortlist of 20 recordings that should have been nominated.
She is off to New York with the Heavy Blinkers
Last Thursday’s Coast Scene and Heard column also had a report on good news for Jenn Grant - she is now managed by Six Shooter crew (who have one of the best label taglines going - “life is too short to listen to shitty music” - indeed).
While the same column had some dirt noting that Jud Haynes was no longer playing bass for wintersleep [they discuss this on their site as well]. His replacement, Mike Bigelow.
While dishing out the praises for Two Hours Traffic i (heart) music has found time for fellow east coaster Rich Aucoin.
Tom Snyder was easily one of my favorite late night hosts, his disarming persona and on air smoking made him unique amongst late night hosts. Stereogum recalls some of his significant music related interviews including the one below with Johnny Rotten:
I am a fan of his blog IndieHQ and this interview provides some insight into the running of his label, Suburban Home Records as well while sharing his passion for vinyl. Good quick read. He has a cute kid too!

There is much talk about Grant as a disarming new voice on Canada’s music scene. In the coming months and years, there will be much more. In fact, one can’t help but wonder where the 26-year-old art school grad has been all our lives.
The disc is called Orchestra for the Moon, and its appearance last month on the small Halifax label, Paris 1919 Sound Recordings signalled the arrival of an important new talent.
I bet the Globe’s writer feels silly not titling the article Ambitious Girl over the Moon
EDIT: Bet ya I feel silly for not linking to the Globe and Mail piece!
