I am trying to clear space for new records, so until May 9th shipping in Canada is free on orders over $45. The usual 4% fee will still be charged for all pay pal transactions. Quantities are limited and availability changes quickly (sometimes before I can change the website). Prices for pick-up and Lost and Found remain the same.
Shipping on LPs is usually around $10 in Canada, so this is a good deal. Check out the facebook group or divorcerecords.ca for information. Thanks.
You get 19 free tracks - all for download w/artwork or streaming on the site - including the newest Tycho single. There is also a video for the first song if you look down in the lower right corner.
It is the artwork I really like on this project. When I first saw the site I instantly thought “vinyl” in relation to the album artwork and its size on the site. Developing covers that can work as the foundation for the artist’s website to be built around them might be an idea more designers should try pitching to artists and artists should consider regardless. Oh and I think the artwork itself is beautiful.
Record label Ghostly International and modern cult classic programmers [Adult Swim] have paired up for a compilation of new music and art*.
A genre-busting 19-song collection, stretching the entire Ghostly International galaxy, Ghostly Swim explores the Avant-Pop style that the Ann Arbor/New York City label has been been championing for the past 9 years. Ghostly Swim features artists like Matthew Dear, Dabrye, Tycho and Aeroc and features new signings like UK cult band The Chap and NYC producer Michna.
The free collection also includes favorite friends of the label like School Of Seven Bells, and Detroit’s Deastro, Milosh (Plug Research), FLYamSAM (Warp’s Flying Lotus and SAMIYAM), and Dark Party (Mush). Along with the new music, BoyCatBird (Ghostly’s mascots) make their animated debut in the awesome “City Suckers” video by Daniel Garcia/Superfi.
Don’t know who did the tour poster but it is nice and sharp and simple and just a job well done. Great reusable tour poster.
Show Details
This Saturday night at Gus’ Pub we will be having a party to celebrate the release of our latest effort, the EP we call ‘Choose your Destination’. Pressed on 7″ vinyl, this EP sports some dope 3D art courtesy of Pigpen aka Mike Holmes, and 5 songs.
We will also be debuting a music video that was shot in 3D. I think. Steph you may feel free to correct me on that one.
The EP, which will also be available as a seven-inch, maintains the Superfantastic signature charm, but the past year’s experience pays off, with more confident playing
No poster for this one but Friday night @ The Marquee Rebekah Higgs CD (re)Release show takes place with support from Coast cover band I See Rowboats & The Spades

Myles Deck and the Fuzz
Gearing up to release their new album, Beware! The Fuzz this Saturday at the Attic, Myles Deck and The Fuzz (Myles Deck on vocals, Dale Boudreau on bass and guitar, Travis Davis on guitar, Al Hoskins on bass and Jordan Oakie on drums) together play quite the mixed bag of blues, country, surf, straight-ahead “blue-collar classic rock” and punk.
“Despite all the differences in our taste for music, we can at least agree on one band, The Dead Kennedys,” says Deck. “There’s also an interest in ’60s surf, country and blues and all of that Americana stuff. Can’t forget about The Stooges, either.”
A familiar-sounding mix of classics and trashiness, a listen to their debut album (on From Here to There Records) highlights Deck’s strong vocals. He can pull this off and really sell it at the same time. Switching effortlessly from speaking to screaming, and using a judicious hand with the distortion, the lyrics also stay in the retro theme.
“I was a big fan of sci-fi/horror movies and comics as a kid. I think these themes find their way into my songs. There’s also a lot of everyday grief I write about,” says Deck. “I’m pretty new to songwriting and I think it’s going to take a while before I can really tap into those good vibrations.” (SJ)

The album has charted on CAPR Radio so far - we are waiting to begin pushing tracking to correspond with touring but that’s a good sign in light of their upcoming show in Sydney. Regardless, please feel free to request songs from the album at your local campus station (if you are in Canada they have a copy now). And thanks of course to CAPR for the spins!

When I get my shit together I plan on doing an interview with Jon/the guys - so at the rate I’m going expect to one day read an interview recapping the tour for this release and well probably get updates on how the recording process is going for their next album In the meantime listen to album opener: War On You - MP3
Erin Costelo to release debut EP, The Trouble & the Truth The Music Room, Saturday, September 15, 8pm
(Halifax, NS) – Singer/songwriter Erin Costelo will be releasing her debut EP, The Trouble & the Truth, at The Music Room (6181 Lady Hammond Road) on Saturday, September 15, 8pm. The show will also feature an opening set from Al Tuck and No Action.
From the first few ghostly notes of Erin Costelo’s The Trouble & The Truth, the mood is set for a unique artistic experience. Made up of piano led compositions that divide their focus between jazz informed songwriting and playful experimental arrangements, the album’s seven tracks dodge any kind of convention. Costelo’s warm and accomplished vocals blanket each track in a hushed intimacy as her lyrics deliver a hard won perspective rare this early in an artist’s career.
With tips of the hat to everything from Tom Waits to Brill Building pop, The Trouble & The Truth is a timeless collection of songs that strives well beyond the standard.
The album features guest performances from Al Tuck, Lukas Pearse, Andrew Glencross, Caleb Hamilton, Gillian Costelo, Alex Porter, Ron Koop, Bernard Kehler.
Admission to the show is $12 and $20 with a CD. Tickets available at the door.
Vision Correction (Divorce)
There’s no doubt that Halifax’s Be Bad know how to bring the noise,
recalling the glory days of Am Rep, but instead of merely annoying
like talentless brats, they engage every step of the way. Comparisons
to Scratch Acid are there, as well as the bad acid trips of the Cows,
but Be Bad definitely carve out their own sound on mathematical “Dead
Head” and the psychedelic “Battle Dick.” In these days when anybody
with guitar pedals and a laptop can become card-carrying noise
musicians, it’s nice to hear some who can sidestep the childish
tantrums and actually rock like fuck.
