No Hate.
No Harm.
We know no organization is perfect (nor are we).
The question for us is:
Are you honestly trying to move in a direction that is more just, more humane, and more responsible than where you’ve been?
Our Standards Are Non-Negotiable
Inspired by: https://www.whiteboard.is/anti-racist
This studio exists to help organizations do better work in ways that reduce harm, not move it around. “No hate, no harm” is the baseline for who we work with, how we work, and what we’re willing to put our name on.
The quality of our partnerships determines the quality of our work, and we aim to choose carefully.
Who we won’t work with
Borrowing from the B Corp movement, we do not work with the following industries:
- Fossil fuel production (or climate change deniers)
- Gambling
- Pornography
- Prisons and detention centers (including prison or detention center labor)
- Tobacco
- Weapons
We will decline or end engagements when:
- Your organization’s core business model depends on exploiting or endangering people, communities, or the environment.
- Leadership or official communications promote hate, systemic discrimination, or conspiracy movements that target specific groups.
- You seek support to weaken democratic norms, suppress rights, or spread disinformation.
- You are seeking “reputation washing” or a values story that doesn’t match how people are actually treated.
If we discover material information that changes our understanding of your work along these lines, we’ll raise it with you directly and may choose to step away.
What this means in practice
No hate
We do not work with individuals or organizations whose actions or public positions promote hate, dehumanization, or discrimination against people based on who they are.
That includes (but isn’t limited to):
ableism
antisemitism
homophobia
Islamophobia
misogyny
racism
sexism
transphobia
xenophobia
aNY forms of bigotry or violent extremism
No harm (as far as we can see it)
We avoid work that clearly contributes to avoidable harm to people, communities, or the planet even if it might be profitable in the short term.We know no organization is perfect. The question for us is:
Are you honestly trying to move in a direction that is more just, more humane, and more responsible than where you’ve been?
How we decide
We don’t have a perfect checklist for every possible situation.
Instead, we use a mix of questions rooted in ethics, Popper’s paradox of tolerance, and a basic commitment to non‑harm:
- Who is likely to be harmed by the changes this work enables, even unintentionally?
- Who gains voice and power, and who loses it?
- Does this strengthen or weaken the conditions for a more open, plural, and democratic society?
- Are we being asked to help launder an image rather than change a reality?
If we’re unsure, we will pause, ask more questions, and sometimes say no.
What this means for clients
If we choose to work together, you can expect us to:
- Raise ethical concerns when we see them, not look the other way.
- Be transparent about where we are uncomfortable and what we are not willing to do.
- Help you surface and reduce harm in your own systems where possible for staff, customers, partners, and communities.
We’ll also expect you to:
- Take concerns about harm seriously, even when they are inconvenient or uncomfortably no.
- Treat your people, your communities, and us with respect.
- Be honest about how things currently work, not just how you’d like them to look.
Moving Forward Together
We don’t see “no hate, no harm” as a marketing angle or a moral achievement. It’s the floor, not a badge.
We’ll get things wrong. We’ll miss things. When that happens, we will listen, repair where we can, and adjust how we work.If this framing resonates with you and your organization’s values, there’s a good chance we’ll get along and that the work we do together will be worth the effort.
If that’s the case, we’re eager to explore how we can support your mission.will pause, ask more questions, and sometimes say no.
This commitment evolves as we learn and grow.
We welcome feedback on how we can better live up to these standards while serving our community with excellence.
